Season 2021
Seniors

Bangor Ladies 1 - 1 Belfast Swifts
League Game

Wednesday 2nd June 19:30

The senior first team kicked off their NIWFA Division 2 campaign with a match away to Bangor Ladies. Recent matches between the two sides have been tight affairs and this one was to be no different. The first half was fiercely competitive with both sides playing some good football but with few clear chances created by either team the score was 0-0 at half time. The second half started in the same fashion but as time wore on the Swifts started to exert more pressure on the Bangor back line and when Brigetta latched on to a through ball from Rebecca M she evaded two Bangor defenders before coolly slotting home to give the Swifts a 1-0 lead. Bangor responded well however and within two minutes had levelled when the Bangor forward picked up a stray ball on the edge of the penalty area and fired into the corner of the net. Both teams pushed hard for a winner and the Swifts could have nicked it when Brigetta made another great run and forced the Bangor keeper into a great save with the game ending in a draw. The Swifts were disappointed to have not held on for the win but a draw was probably a fair result in a very competitive match. Thanks very much to Bangor Football Club for a great game and good luck for the rest of the season.

Belfast Swifts 7-1 Ballymena Ladies II
League Game

Sunday 6th June 14:00

The senior first team had their first home league match of the season this afternoon against Ballymena Ladies II’s. The girls started slowly probably due to the after effects of a tough game on Wednesday night but soon got into their stride creating some good chances but failing to convert any. The opening goal did come eventually when Aoibhinn rifled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box after a short corner to make the half time score 1-0 to the Swifts. The girls started the second half brightly and were much more clinical in front of goal racing into a 4-0 lead. Credit to Ballymena who didn’t give up and pulled a goal back from a penalty but the Swifts went up a gear and added another 3 to make the final score 7-1. Overall it was a great performance from the girls with some excellent football played and well taken goals. Thanks to Ballymena for the game and good luck for the rest of the season.

Newhill Ladies 10-0 Belfast Swifts Reserves
League Game

Friday 28th May 20:00

Our Reserve team played their first senior match last night in the NIWFA league v Newhill fc. We always knew it was going to be tough as many of our girls are inexperienced and for some of the girls it was their first ever 11 a side game.

It was a tough game for our girls against a more experienced, well organised Newhill squad. A lot of positives to take from the game though, with some nice link up play between our midfield and forwards and our girls in defence who worked tirelessly all night. All in all - the girls gave 100%. Every player put in a great effort for their team mates - well done girls. Thank you to Newhill for the game and good luck for the rest of the season.
