Bangor Ladies 1 - 1 Belfast Swifts
Wednesday 2nd June 19:30pm
The senior first team kicked off their NIWFA Division 2 campaign with a match away to Bangor Ladies. Recent matches between the two sides have been tight affairs and this one was to be no different. The first half was fiercely competitive with both sides playing some good football but with few clear chances created by either team the score was 0-0 at half time.
The second half started in the same fashion but as time wore on the Swifts started to exert more pressure on the Bangor back line and when Brigetta latched on to a through ball from Rebecca M she evaded two Bangor defenders before coolly slotting home to give the Swifts a 1-0 lead. Bangor responded well however and within two minutes had levelled when the Bangor forward picked up a stray ball on the edge of the penalty area and fired into the corner of the net. Both teams pushed hard for a winner and the Swifts could have nicked it when Brigetta made another great run and forced the Bangor keeper into a great save with the game ending in a draw. The Swifts were disappointed to have not held on for the win but a draw was probably a fair result in a very competitive match. Thanks very much to Bangor Football Club for a great game and good luck for the rest of the season.

Belfast Swifts 7 - 1 Ballymena Ladies II
Sunday 6th June 14:00pm
The senior first team had their first home league match of the season this afternoon against Ballymena Ladies II’s. The girls started slowly probably due to the after effects of a tough game on Wednesday night but soon got into their stride creating some good chances but failing to convert any. The opening goal did come eventually when Aoibhinn rifled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box after a short corner to make the half time score 1-0 to the Swifts.
The girls started the second half brightly and were much more clinical in front of goal racing into a 4-0 lead. Credit to Ballymena who didn’t give up and pulled a goal back from a penalty but the Swifts went up a gear and added another 3 to make the final score 7-1. Overall it was a great performance from the girls with some excellent football played and well taken goals. Thanks to Ballymena for the game and good luck for the rest of the season.

Carnmoney Ladies Athletic 1 - 1 Belfast Swifts
Friday 18th June 20:10pm
The senior first team faced Carnmoney at the Valley in their latest league match tonight. Both teams have had a great start to the season and as previous matches between the two sides have been close another tight match was expected. Both teams matched each other in the first half with few clear cut chances created for either side with the half ending scoreless.
Carnmoney started the second half brightly and when a corner was cleared to the edge of the box it was picked up by a Carnmoney player and sent over the Swift’s keepers head to put them 1-0 up. The Swifts battled hard to try and get back in the game but Carnmoney defended well and continued to look dangerous going forward. With 12 minutes to go the Swifts went on the attack and when Lauren found herself 25 yards out with the ball at her feet she unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner to bring the Swifts level. Both teams pushed hard for a winner and Carnmoney nearly nicked it in the last minute when a long range effort hit the bar but the game ended in a draw. The Swifts worked hard from start to finish with every player running themselves into the ground and fully deserved their point. Thanks to Carnmoney Ladies FC for a competitive match and good luck for the rest of the season.

Belfast Swifts 0 - 2 Larne Ladies Olympic
Sunday 27th June 14:00pm
The senior team’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end against a well organised Larne Olympic this afternoon at Brook. Larne started the brighter of the two teams and opened the scoring when the Larne forward latched on a through ball and poked the ball past the on rushing goalkeeper. This spurred the Swifts on and they started to dominate possession but the closest they came to a goal was when SJ crashed the ball off the crossbar just before half time.
The Swifts continued to dominate the second half but couldn’t find a way past the Larne back line or keeper who made some great saves. Larne took advantage of a moment of hesitancy in the Swifts defence to double their lead. The closest the Swifts came to getting back in the game was when a shot from Cora hit the bar but Larne held on for a well deserved win. Good luck to Larne Olympic for the rest of the season.
Belfast Swifts 1 - 8 Lisburn Rangers
Sunday 4th July 2021 14:15pm
The senior team put in a really strong performance against Lisburn Rangers this afternoon. Against a team who have been beating teams by double figure score lines the Swifts started really strongly and took an early lead through Aoibhinn. The Swifts could have went two up when Rebecca C brought a great save from the Lisburn keeper but after 20 minutes Lisburn equalised and took control of the rest of the half adding 4 more to make the half time score 5-1.
The Swifts stuck to the task in the second half restricting Lisburn’s chances and creating a few of their own but ultimately the match ended 8-1. Not the result we hoped for but a real fighting performance that the girls should take a lot of confidence from. Good luck to Lisburn Rangers for the rest of the season.

St Oliver Plunkett Ladies 1 - 3 Belfast Swifts
Friday 9th July 19:15pm
The senior team played St Oliver Plunkett in the league at Brook last night. The girls started off brightly and created a couple of chances before taking an early lead when Rebecca C slammed the ball home from ten yards from a Mandy cross after a short corner. St Oliver Plunkett responded well and equalised shortly afterwards and then went on to dominate large parts of the first half but the half ended level.
The Swifts knew they had to step it up in the second half and started the half much brighter, beginning to dominate and create chances. The goal they deserved finally came when SJ got on the end of a Rebecca C cross and finished from close range. The Swifts continued to pile on the pressure and sealed the match when Rebecca C broke free and coolly lobbed the keeper to make the final score 3-1. The girls had to work very hard for the win and it was a great second half performance from the Swifts after a below par performance in the first half.

Wednesday 14th July 20:00pm
The senior team slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Banbridge Town last night. The girls were left scratching their heads as to how they failed to win a match they dominated from start to finish but Banbridge took the two chances they had and the Swifts failed to convert numerous chances. Despite the disappointing result the girls put in an excellent performance and played some fantastic attacking football but Banbridge defended really well and held on for a deserved win. Good luck to Banbridge Town for the rest of the season

Sunday 18th July 14:00pm
The senior team met Bangor in a league match at Brook today in what were really tough conditions due to the intense heat. The Swifts were under strength due to a number of absences as a result of players carrying injuries but were confident that the match day squad was strong enough to do the job. They started the brighter of the two teams moving the ball about well and enjoying long periods of possession. They made the breakthrough when Jolene who had been called up from the u15’s to the senior squad for the first time unleashed an unstoppable strike from 25 yards to give the Swifts a deserved lead. As half time approached however a stray pass out of defence gifted Bangor an equaliser to make the half time score 1-1.
Bangor stepped it up in the second half and started to take control of the game but couldn’t find any way past the Swifts defence. As the half wore on the Swift’s came back into the game and took the lead when Mandy smashed a free kick high over the keepers head from 30 yards. The Swifts saw out the remaining minutes of the match restricting Bangor’s opportunities to equalise and held on for a hard fought but deserved win. Good luck to Bangor Ladies Football Club for the rest of the season.

Ballymena Ladies II 3 - 5 Belfast Swifts
Thursday 29th July 19:30pm
The senior team made the trip to the Ballymena Showgrounds to play Ballymena Ladies II’s in the league. The Swifts started really brightly and created a few early chances and took a deserved lead after about ten minutes when Aoibhinn got on the end of a great cross ahead of the keeper to put the ball in the net. The Swifts kept the pressure up and when Rebecca C was brought down in the box Aoibhinn stepped up to convert the penalty to make the score 2-0 after half an hour. The third goal came only a few minutes later when Brigetta broke free on the right and scored with an excellent finish from a tight angle to make the half time score 3-0.
As expected Ballymena came out strongly pushing hard to get back in the game and playing some direct football. They reduced the deficit within ten minutes and then pulled another back to make the score 3-2. To the Swifts credit they didn’t panic and continued to play good football and eventually restored their two goal lead with another excellent finish from Brigetta. Ballymena never gave up and reduced the deficit to 4-3 with around twenty minutes to go. With both teams pushing hard for further goals it was the Swifts who scored again when Lauren finished coolly from ten yards out with around ten minutes remaining with the final score being 5-3. A very entertaining match and a great effort from Ballymena to get themselves back in the game in the second half. Good luck to Ballymena United F.C. Women & Academy for the rest of the season.

Belfast Swifts 0 - 6 Carnmoney Ladies Athletic
Sunday 1st August 14:00pm
The senior team met Carnmoney in the league at Brook this afternoon. They started reasonably well and restricted Carnmoney in the early periods but Carnmoney put together a great move to go one nil up and doubled their lead just before half time.
The Swifts remained confident that they could get back into the game in the second half but after having to make some enforced changes Carnmoney got on top and ran out comfortable winners with the final result being 6-0.
Disappointing end to a tough week for the girls with everything seeming to go against them today but a third match in a week against a talented Carnmoney side sitting at the top of the table was always going to be a tough ask. Good luck to Carnmoney Ladies FC for the rest of the season.
Belfast Swifts 0 -10 Lisburn Rangers Ladies
Sunday 8th August 14:00pm
The Senior team faced Lisburn Rangers in a league game at Brook today. The Swifts were aware from the start that they would be in for a tough afternoon against the free scoring Lisburn team and found themselves two down early on. Credit to the girls who battled gamely throughout and kept going to the end with the game ending 10-0. Some of the football Lisburn Rangers played was top quality but the girls who turned out for the Swifts can be proud of the effort they put in. Good luck to Lisburn Rangers FC for the remainder of the season.

Great performance from the seniors tonight to book their place in the last eight of the Super Cup. They got the better of the first half but couldn’t find the breakthrough until Becca popped up with an excellent left foot finish right on the stroke of half time.
The girls really stepped it up in the second half and dominated throughout adding late goals from Lauren and Rebecca to end comfortable winners. A quarter final to look forward to for the girls as well as continuing their drive to finish as high up the league as possible. Belfast Swifts 3-1 St Oliver Plunkett Ladies
Thursday 26th August 19:15pm
The senior team played St Oliver Plunkett FC last night in the league at Brook. Previous matches between the two teams have been tight and Plunkett started quickly taking an early need. The Swifts settled into the game and started to create some good chances but couldn’t find an equaliser before the break.
The Swifts started the second half with a lot of confidence and started to get on top. The deserved equaliser came when Bridgetta broke into the box and coolly slotted the ball past the keeper into the corner of the net. The girls really took control of the game from that point and when Bridgetta skipped past a couple of challenges and scored into the top corner of the net from what looked like an impossible angle the Swifts were set up for the win. Plunkett rallied to try and get back in the game but the Swifts defence looked comfortable and Lauren sealed the win with a terrific strike to make the final score 3-1. A hard fought victory for the Swifts but thoroughly deserved.

Wednesday 15th September 20.00pm
Exciting end to the senior teams season tonight as they completed their league campaign against Banbridge Town. Having not played for almost 3 weeks the Swifts started off really slowly and Banbridge took full advantage racing into a 2-0 lead. The Swifts asked a lot of questions of themselves at the break and resolved to give a better account of themselves in the second half.
They started the second half much better and created numerous chances but couldn’t find a way past the Banbridge keeper who was having a great game. The Swifts however finally got themselves back in the game when Mandy scored from the rebound after her penalty kick had been saved. They continued to push for the equaliser which duly came when Rebecca finished emphatically from just inside the box. With time running out the Swifts were pushing hard for the winner and with a minute of injury time left Rebecca popped up again to turn the ball home from close range to see the match finish 3-2. Hard on Banbridge Town Ladies Football Club who gave their all throughout the whole match and played some great football.
The Swifts can be very proud of their performance this season ending up a comfortable third in the league behind two excellent sides and also making it through to the quarter final of the Super Cup.
